Viva Cackalacky - Hispanic Heritage Month




On this show we celebrated Hispanic Heritage month by featuring latin music and focusing on hispanic issues. The show  features the recently released album  “¡Viva Cackalacky! Latin Music in the New South,” a CD produced by UNC students that pays homage to the growing Latino community in North Carolina. We interviewed musicians from the album including Ricardo Granillo of Carnavalito and Pavelid Castaneda. We also interviewed David Garcia the UNC professor of music who led the project.

This show explores music from the newly released book by Beth Lesser, "Rub-A-Dub Style: The Roots of Modern Dancehall," an unprecedented volume that covers the emergence of Dancehall music in Jamaica in the 1980's.
