Lee Morgan burst into the jazz scene as a teenager playing trumpet on coltrane’s 1957 masterpiece Blue Train. After learning at the feet of Art Blakey and the jazz messengers Lee Morgan became one of the key hard bop musicians of the 1960s producing more than 30 records some of which are now considered jazz classics. Then on a snowy night in February 1972, Lee Morgan was shot dead by his common-law wife Helen during a gig at a club in New York City.
