Dub International
Listen to Bonus interview of local Dub artists from Dub Addis and The Unsustainables
One of the many great musical exports of the island of Jamaica was the invention of Dub. A musical style featuring the drum and bass tracks of studio recordings and made the producer the leader of the band. The producer would use the drum and bass tracks a foundation and then manipulate the previously recorded horn, piano, guitar, and vocal tracks fading them in and out an adding affects such as an echo. Dub has since infected nearly every musical corner of our world being integrated into other cultures and producing new music never envisioned by these Jamaican producers. Join Jazz Incognito, with special guest Nth Degree, as we travel the world sampling Dub styles from the continents of Africa, South America, North America, Asia, and Europe.

The Mighty Selectors: The Heart of Jamaican Music
The Soul of Jamaica crew is back bringing their deep crates of rare Jamaican gold to celebrate one of the most important people in any sound system, the selector. The selector is the one who chooses what music to play and when to play it. They control the vibe of the dance and through their music selection the selector can make or break a sound system. In the US we call this person a DJ, but in Jamaica this position is referred to as the selector while the DJ is the mic man. Many great selectors have come and gone creating a long history of amazing music. Come join Jazz Incognito, Selector B Steady, and the Nth Degree as we pay tribute to some of the great selectors in Jamaican history as well as share a bit about this crucial part of sound system culture.

Jamaica Down Her Way: The Women of Reggae Special
I am proud to announce a new collaboration between DJ’s Jazz Incognito, Selector B Steady, and the Nth degree called the Soul of Jamaica. Come join the Soul of Jamaica crew as we combine our collective crates and take over the airwaves to bring you the rarest and best in Jamaican Gold!
Tune in for our kickoff show on the women of reggae. Women have played a crucial part in the creation and development of music in Jamaica, but all too often their role has been overshadowed in a male dominated industry. The Soul of Jamaica crew is here to raise those voices and show the vital contributions made by producers, singers, promoters, dancers and label owners. In this show we’ll be featuring elusive Jamaican jazz singer Sheila Rickards and a brand new documentary about her.
